As the Holi festival draws closer, a jewellery shop in Lucknow has created a buzz by offering an extravagant silver Pichkari (water gun) and small silver buckets priced up to Rs 1 lakh. This opulent twist on traditional Holi accessories has captured the attention of festive shoppers.
Jeweller Adesh Kumar Jain explained the cultural significance behind these silver Pichkaris, stating that it is an old tradition where the bride’s family gifts them to the groom’s family as a symbolic gesture. “The price of these Pichkaris ranges from Rs 8,000 to Rs 1 lakh, depending on the design and craftsmanship,” Jain said.
This year, the silver Pichkaris have been made even more special with the introduction of intricate carvings, vibrant meenakari work, and delicate stone inlays. This artistic enhancement has been widely appreciated by customers.
The demand for these ornate water guns has been remarkable. “So far, we have sold at least 1,000 Pichkaris in Lucknow alone. As we run a wholesale business, many shopkeepers have purchased these to offer to their own customers. I believe this tradition of wedding Pichkaris will become even more popular in the years to come,” Jain added.
The enthusiasm for unique festive items extends beyond just silverware. In Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, a sweet shop has introduced the exclusive ‘Golden Gujiya’, a lavish twist on the traditional Holi sweet. Priced at Rs 50,000 per kilogram and Rs 1,300 per piece, the Golden Gujiya is coated with a layer of 24-carat gold and filled with a rich blend of special dry fruits.
Shop manager Shivakant Chaturvedi shared the details behind the creation. “Our ‘Golden Gujiya’ features a 24-carat gold layering and a premium dry fruit filling. Both gold and silver are traditionally consumed in edible forms, and this luxurious take on the classic Gujiya has drawn immense interest,” he said.
Traditional Gujiyas are known for their sweet khoya, nut, and dried fruit fillings. The Golden Gujiya takes this beloved dessert to a whole new level with its shimmering gold leaf exterior, making it a standout addition to Holi celebrations.
As the festival of colours approaches, the fusion of tradition and luxury seen in these silver Pichkaris and golden sweets underscores the evolving and vibrant spirit of Holi.
